    • What: Dr. Frances Tylavsky will present the CANDLE Study: A Source for Public Health Messaging and Interventions

  • Don't Panic! Crash Course in Responding to Emergencies - April 8, 2014
    • What: IPSC will partner with the Shelby County Office of Preparedness to increase awareness about their free community emergency response team (CERT) classes and to offer a full training session specifically for UTHSC students and faculty. The training session will include life-saving information pertaining to the most common hazards and threats to people living in Shelby County. The anticipated benefit of this training program is to inform the community on how to prepare and act in the event of a natural or manmade disaster.

  • Eat Well: Exploring the Health Implications of Food Deserts in Memphis and Possible Solutions - April 10, 2014
    • What: IPSC will host a panel of interdisciplinary experts who will discuss current issues regarding access to healthy foods in the Memphis community and potential policy and outreach solutions. Speakers include Dr. Ken Reardon, head of the graduate program in Urban and Regional Planning at U of Memphis and co-founder of the Green Machine Mobile Market; Estella Mayhue-Greer, CEO of the Memphis Food Bank; and Carole Colter, Food Policy Coordinator at the Food Advisory Council for Memphis and Shelby County.

  • Eat Well: Dinner + Movie - April 10th, 2014
    • What: IPSC will host a community dinner where a screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary “The Garden” will be shown. The film tells the story of a 14 acre community garden in South Central Los Angeles, which was the largest of its kind in the United States. This screening will be open to the public and Grow Memphis, an organization that facilitates the start-up of community gardens, will lead a discussion after the film.

  • PechaKucha Night with Crosstown Arts: Be the Healthiest City in ONE Generation- April 11th, 2014
    • What: In collaboration with Crosstown Arts, the Interprofessional Student Council is hosting the first UTHSC Pecha Kucha Night on Friday, April 11th! This will be a fun and informal evening where we can share our ideas and get to know the Crosstown community!
