This conference will address the inadequate communication that sometimes occurs between health providers that can result in poor coordination of care and ultimately poor patient outcomes. Gaps in health care reinforce the necessity of interprofessional collaboration and interprofessional education (IPE) to improve oral and systemic health care. IPE fosters enhanced skills in collaboration, communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving along with strengthening mutual understanding and respect for diverse roles played by various health professionals in the care of patients. The goal of IPE is the education health care providers who competently care for diverse patients and who are authorized to provide evidence-based and comprehensive health care. This conference will provide a forum to examine the benefits of Interprofessional Education in addressing oral health care.
