Please join us for a special seminar given by Charles Lee Bennett, PhD, University of South Carolina, 'The Southern Network on Adverse Reactions (SONOR): The next generation of pharmacovigilance'Dr. Bennett has led a series of NIH,VA,ACS, and state of South Carolina funded pharmaceutical watchdog initiatives that have identified fatal side effects for 43 blockbuster drugs. One of the more notable findings from his work was increased mortality risks with eyrthropoietin (EPO)-a finding that resulted in savings of $5 billion in health care expenditures and over 100,000 saved lives worldwide. The projects rely on evaluating small numbers of case reports, rather than data mining efforts.
